What Granite Staters Deserve to Hear from Ayotte’s Budget Address

On Thursday, Governor Kelly Ayotte will deliver her first state budget address. With costs continuing to skyrocket, a financial mess left behind by her Republican predecessor, and chaos and confusion coming out of Washington at the hands of the Trump administration, hardworking Granite Staters are anxious to hear whether their new Governor will prioritize the challenges they and their families face or if Ayotte will continue down the path of making working families pay the price for Republican mismanagement of the state’s finances.

As we await Governor Ayotte’s budget speech, let’s take a look at what Granite Staters deserve out of the Governor’s first proposal.

How Will the Next State Budget Lower Property Taxes for Granite State Families?

As we’ve detailed in prior newsletters, the burden of property taxes on hardworking Granite Staters has skyrocketed under Republican control of the state over the last decade. Last year alone, statewide property taxes increased by $100.7 million in FY2024, a 38.3% jump. And with her Republicans allies in the legislature proposing to expand programs that like school vouchers that increase local property taxes, Granite Staters deserve a budget proposal that reverses the trend of increased costs on hardworking families.

How Will Gov. Ayotte Balance the Budget Without Forcing More of a Burden on Hardworking Families?

Last month, it was revealed that the current state budget was facing a $21 million shortfall, largely due to years of Republican tax giveaways to the ultra-wealthy while costs have been downshifted to local communities. As Ayotte prepares her budget, Granite Staters deserve and expect a budget that does not cut existing and needed services like education, health care, and infrastructure.

How Will Gov. Ayotte Stand Up to the Trump Administration and Protect New Hampshire from the Costs of His Chaos?

Over the last 3 weeks, Granite Staters have experienced chaos and confusion coming out of Washington on a scale we haven’t seen since the first Trump Administration. While New Hampshire’s Congressional delegation has stood up and demanded answers and accountability, Governor Ayotte has been nowhere to be found. New Hampshire families deserve leadership and stability in times of crisis, not silence, and Ayotte has to take this opportunity to reassure Granite Staters that the financial confusion and reckless policies of the Trump Administration will be met with strong opposition in New Hampshire.
